Turn, Turn, Turn

Whenever the blog Rollo & Grady posts a letter from Bob Lefsetz, I try to read the whole thing.  His latest article raves about a new music service/website called Turntable.fm. It is somewhat like a mix of those old AOL chat rooms and Pandora, where users enter a room (or create one) and then whoever takes turns adding songs to the playlist.  Watch the video below or just go straight there.

The Man from Third Man

Jack White continues to be the coolness over at Third Man Records.  The other day I linked to the Black Milk songs that Jack guests on, Seasick Steve did a single, Chris Thile just did a single, The Strange Boys are putting out a live record, and  Pokey LaFarge is a good listen.  In the  latest record club release, the Vault, Wanda Jackson is putting out a live record, and there are songs from Andre Williams and Jack’s old collaboration, 2 Star Tabernacle.

Coolest/strangest/most-appropriate-for-this-blog is that Stephen Colbert is releasing a single via Third Man Records.  See all the videos of Stephen at playing the new song live and Jack White on the Colbert Report at The Modern Age.  Thanks to K$ for the heads up.

Pretty Much….

Bunch o’ random stuff in music that I thought worth posting about:

• Tallest Man On Earth has a new song via a new Adult Swim Singles collection. Not as great as the album, the Wild Hunt, but worth a listen.
• Avett Brothers have a new song out.  Check out the live performance on CMT.
• After talking to Brice about the folk-y kick I have been on lately, she suggested The Devil Makes Three.  Worth a listen.
• Adele has a pretty much amazing cover of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.“  The story behind the inspiration of the song is pretty awesome.
• Zooey Deshanel and M. Ward have a new song on the Pooh soundtrack.
• Via the Phantom and Jason Thomas, Jack White is releasing two covers the White Stripes did.
• Rome has been played on the radio a bunch, but have you heard Jack White’s collaboration with Black Milk?
