Still Can’t Get Enough Colbert?
After hearing how amazing his show at Thalia Hall a week ago from some people here at work, I have been non-stop listening to Sturgill Simpson. Now that I have heard about him, his name seems to be everywhere, on a few best-the-year lists and even a grammy nomination. He has a classic country style voice and sound with some psychedelia added in and some great lyrics. Rolling Stone says people are calling him a modern Waylon Jennings (so Brendy, he’s probably going to be up your alley). His two best jams are Turtles All The Way Down and Life of Sin:
Nora alerted me to these awesome covers dressed as Hobbit characters, but she said she didn’t see this video of Colbert interviewing Smaug. If you watch the last bit of the show he thanks Peter Jackson and then lists the people who helped animate the dragon for the show, which was about 50 names. Almost as good as President Obama doing a segment of the show.

Year end lists are starting to come out and I couldn’t be more excited to see what I haven’t been cool enough to notice when it came out. If you listen to Spotify and want to see the stats of what you have been listening to over the last year, then check out Spotify’s Year In Music. It will even create a playlist based on your past year’s plays.
Since getting a smart phone and the unreliability of the iPod, this report is fairly accurate when it says that Miranda Lambert was my favorite artist and the top two songs on my most played list were from Hurray for the Riff Raff:
