• What’s the deal Subway?

Subway has always been one of my favorite sandwich shoppes (that’s old timey talk for shop).  But recently I feel that the sandwich’s they serve are going downhill.  I believe this all started when they decided to slice their bread differently.  If you can recall the bread used to be cut along the top in a “U” shape, allowing a nice little pocket for your assorted meats, cheeses and veggies.  This new “straight across the middle, but not quite all the way through” cut is ruining the dynamic of a once great sandwich!  It’s madness I tell you, MADNESS!  I probably could have gotten over the new way they slice bread but what I’m about to tell you is downright silly and might quite possibly jeopardize my return visits to Subway.  They are now putting the veggies on the BOTTOM of the sandwich.  What the hell is that?  As a former sandwich artist I find this insulting.  The proper order of ingredients is cheese, meat, veggies, condiments.  You can maybe mix up the cheese/meat order but under no circumstances should vegetables be on the bottom.  Now I have to eat my sandwich upside down…and I’m pissed because that really throws off my bread to meat ratio (because of the aforementioned new cut). I don’t know what this world is coming to, thank goodness Subway still has decent sized cups or they might be the new IHOP.

  • In the Realms of the Unreal

For the Chicago kids…this documentary is about the life of Henry Drager.  A somewhat reclusive man but when alone he spent countless hours compiling a 15,000 page novel with extensive artwork and detail.  None of which were revealed until after Dragers death.  The documentary itself is a little creepy at times but this man was a Chicago native and spent the majority of his life in the Lincoln Park area.  The movie is spliced with interviews from those who “knew” Drager and snippits of his massive novel as well as his artwork.  Just thought those living in the area might be interested in the subject matter.  (more…)

  • 30 Days of Night

I know I’ve been a little lax on the movie reviews lately but I haven’t seen anything worthy of the Bruce.  However, if you are keen to vampire movies, 30 Days of Night will be right up your alley.  Staring Josh Hartnett (yeah, i thought the same thing…but he is surprisingly good in this thriller) and co-written by Steve Niles (who wrote the original comic book) the movie takes us to a small Alaskan town preparing for a month of darkness.  Hmm…sounds like a vampire’s wet dream.  Vivid and gory scenes contrast nicely with the white Alaskan landscape and the vampires themselves are portrayed as ruthless beasts eager to devour whatever flesh they can find.  I would put this up there with The Lost Boys for all time favorite vampire flicks.

  • HELP ME!!

I’m using the power of the Bruce Blog for my own personal gain…I hope everyone is ok with that.  I am in need of some information involving Arnold Schwarzenegger.  I vaguely remember this from my youth but could swear that Arnie was involved in some sort of public service announcement.  It had to do with children’s health or perhaps eating a nutritional breakfast.  Now, I don’t think this was ever aired on TV, I think it was like a preview or something on VHS tapes.  I recall Arnold in the White House, standing in front of the presidential seal, talking to kids about donuts. Does anyone remember this?  I tried explaining it to a classmate but I think I lost him when I mentioned VHS…damn these kids today.  Why might I need this?  I’m doing a report/presentation on Childhood Obesity for my Health class and can’t think of a better way to earn an A than putting some Old School Arnold out there for all to see.  So my merry little band of web surfing freaks, I’m looking to you for answers.  Please help me on this search.  Â
