Neil, you might remember him as the rapper Krispy Kreme from when you posted about him before, but apparently he is a Bulls fan. Never heard of or completely understand how calling someone the father of someone else is a dis, but this video is worth a watch:

    True Survivor

Friday jam?  So I saw this trailer for King Fury and thought it was just a collection of hilarious/kick-ass action stereotypes packaged together as a fake movie, kind of like the dark Power Rangers short film (with James Van Der Beek) or something.  But it is real.  Still more confused than anything, but this music video off the soundtrack from David Hasselhoff is worth watching:

    • Though my (and Joan’s) favorite version of this song is from the Matchmaker (Rolling Stone even acknowledges the movie’s help of that song), listen to Van Morrison redo “Irish Heartbeat” with Mark Knopfler on a new cd of duets including Steve Winwood, Mavis Staples and Michael Buble. (Sorry I can’t find a link to the movie clip of him singing the song).
    • Nora reminded me how good that whole Matchmaker album was.  In addition to Irish Heartbeat, there was Shane MacgGowan and the Popes’ Rock’N’Roll Paddy, The Waterboys’ Bang on the Ear, World Party’s She’s the One, but her favorite is Shane MacGowan and Sinead’s version of Haunted.
    • The Violent Femmes have released their first song in 15 years, Love Love Love, Love.
    • The Detroit Cobras have a new song out, Feel Good.
    • Mumford & Son’s new song, Believe, is available to listen.
    • Houndmouth’s new album, Little Neon Limelight, is streaming at NPR’s First Listen.

    • So the instagram account, Hot Dudes reading, would just be for the ladies if it were not for the funny comments about each. Check out BoredPanda for a bunch of good ones.
    • Talking about funny social media accounts, check out Nihilist Arby’s twitter account. Sample tweet: “The birth of your child, your first snowfall, a shooting star: All meaningless in the face of the void. Arby’s: may as well order the large.” or: “McDonalds is trying to buy you with love. Check out THIS counter offer: suffer and let Arby’s be your fuel. Die.”
    • The new Kendrick Lamar track, The Blacker the Berry, is pretty good.
    • With exception to the Counting Crows song, Einstein on the Beach, on the cd DGC Rarities, compilations put together by a label usually do not include great songs from bands.  The band LVL UP did something great and did a cover of Adam Sandler’s Somebody Kill Me Please from the Wedding Singer.
    • This is a video of a bachelor party/prank where a bunch of guys reenact Rambo for the unknowing groom. Wait till you have some time, cause it is a half hour long.
    • If you liked the movie-essay video I posted before, you should check out this video, The Problem with Action Movies Today, or this essay about Drive‘s quandrant system of framing shots.
    • The new Amy Schumer movie, Trainwreck, looks funny.
    • Shout Factory is a company that has rights to a lot of old television show and movies and has their own site to watch them for free-zies. Via Awesomer.
    • I watched the movie, Chef, on Netflix the other day and have been repeating this song ever since:
