If you are going to do a cover of a song and release it, you should bring something to it rather than just playing a copy. Someone smarter than me told me that and it’s a good way to look at covers. I’m not a huge fan of changing lyrics so that different people are referenced, but the funk Billy Paul adds to this cover of Wings Let ‘Em In great. With so many covers of songs by a the Beatles or by a Beatle out there, it is nice choice too. Listen for yourself:

The actual recorded song is just as good.

On the topic of Beatle’s covers where the artist brings something new to the song, that smarter person referenced above (Mike), showed me Isaac Haye’s cover of Something.

There was an obituary for Clarissa Dickson Wright, from some British cooking show called Two Fat Ladies, on a recent Smartest Man of the World podcast which included “Her choice for Desert Island Discs ranged from The Drinking Song by Verdi to Ra Ra Rasputin by Boney M.”  Like most opera or classical, I had heard the song Traviata by Verdi, but didn’t know the name.  I looked up the other song because I remembered that Boney M.’s Gotta Go Home was probably the sample for Danny O’Connor favorite Duck Sauce’s Barbara Streisand, and it didn’t disappoint.  It is an awesome jam with bizarre hilarious lyrics about a Nora-favorite Russian:

Another great band find from Rachel’s Spotify feed, if you like the song below, check out their video for Penitentiary or song Come On, Illinois, or their take-away show covering Parliament’s Get To That and Long Black Veil.

Dj Snake and Lil Jon.  Both apt names for a penis; maybe the inspiration for this weird and/or hilarious video with a dancing penis:
