This will probably not be the last time that I report about a site’s best-of-the-year list or best-of-the-decade list. Berkeley Place put up a list of the best independent albums put out this year. One I hadn’t seen/read before was #2: Frank Turner. The site proclaims him as the next Joe Strummer, and I tend to agree. Describing him as “Punk Folk,” couldn’t be more spot on. I couldn’t get his myspace to work, so check him out on the Hype Machine or with the song on Berkeley Place that turned me on to him:

Not Bloomberger
Having just seen Jay-Z in Champaign and borrowing all his cds from my cousin Meezy, I thought this was U2 playing with Hova was neato. I don’t know if I would call Jay-Z the mayor of New York, but those Irish like to think they’re clever. Via Berkeley Place.
I didn’t like Harry Potter or The Lord of the Rings, so this might sound weird, but does anyone want to see this movie?

Waddling Around!
Those Darlins are coming back to Chicago. Normally I would say, “hey, there an awesome band, but I just saw them,” but not this time. They are opening up for the amazing King Kahn and BBQ Show. Tickets are $15 and its at the Logan Square Auditorium on Dec 2. Who’s in? Norah, you’re back in town, right?
Not interested? How about this then?
- Via Berkeley Place, My Morning Jacket, Weezer and Andrew Bird doing a Muppet Show tribute disc?
- This Jabba The Hut cake is pretty awesome. Via Pop Candy.
- Wasn’t someone saying the other night that they didn’t know any other Steve Coogan (that guy from Hamlet 2) movies? Well apparently there’s a 14 dvd colletion of his movies out today.

Party
I don’t have anything great to put up, so here are a couple things; hopefully you like at least one of them.
- “Fuck Patience, Lets Dance” says Them Crooked Vultures (Grohl, Homme and JP Jones) cause they now have their new cd on the youtubes.
- Pixies did “Here Comes a Man” on the Co Co Show.
- More Gaga: she has a new song out and another cover of Poker face by Cartman.
- Weezy gots a documentary. I hope he explains why his leather is so soft.
- Pearl Jam dressed up as Devo for Halloween, and here is Stone Gossard Rick-Rolling ya.
- I don’t know if this is supposed to be funny, but I laughed pretty hard. Thanks Kristen.
I usually only do one Neil pic a post, but when I added the “Party In The USA,” I couldn’t help myself. After the jump…

I don’t Care…
Julian Casablancas apparently doesn’t care what the calendar says, cause he put on his myspace a cover of the SNL song “I wish it were Christmas Today.” Stereogum adequately described it as sounding like an early Strokes b-side. Yup, that goofy song Horatio Sans, Jimmy Fallon, Chris Kattan and Tracy Morgan did a couple years ago that was Neil and Austin’s favorite for so many years. Julian probably does care about getting as much press as he can for the solo album released two days ago, which is most likely the reason for the release. And if you want to listen the rest of the album, its streaming in it’s entirety on his myspace also.
