To compensate for the lack of posts, lets keep a streak going. I like this Dixie Chicks song, Cowboy Take Me Away fine enough, but Lissie giving it the Rick-Rubin-stripped-down treatment has gotten it locked in my head for much longer than I would like.
I first heard of Lissie from her amazing cover of Kid Cudi’s Pursuit of Happiness. Doing this great cover might have been a lot of people’s introduction to her, because she put an entire covers album.
The Cult was recommended after watching the Tenpole Tudors video from the last post. I loved finding an excuse to slip this in while DJ-ing at the Thatch:
Found this via Cait O’Riordan’s twitter. Some pretty horrible lip-synching, but great song:
Came across this via LaughingSquid. I like the cut of these guys’ jib, Foil Arms & Hog, too bad their October live show in Chicago is sold out already. They do have their own Youtube Channel, so hopefully more of this.
Saw this on Twitter tonight: “What cover versions did you hear so many times before you heard the original that you still think of the cover as the original?”
Before you start answering, here was an absolute gem I never knew, probably because for years I thought the title was “We’re going down to a lineup”. Here is Paul Pena doing his song, Jet Airliner on Conan:
And speaking of Steve Miller, I can’t say I’ve ever figured out the answer to this post about this song with/from/for Paul McCartney.
