Ooot in a boot

When I was in school, someone told me a story/joke about accents that involved a person from Minnesota getting a call from their roomate’s Chicagoan mother. The mother asked where the roomate was, to which the room replied: “She’s oot in a boot.” The mother was curious why her daughter in a boat in such cold weather, never quite figuring out that it was “out and about.” There were a bunch of differences between Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois that were frequently debated at school, which is why I found this video interesting:

Been listening to Chance the Rapper’s mixtape Acid Raps which lead me to discover another Chicago rapper, Noname Gyspy. It’s nice to break away from raps that focus on guns, bitches and bling:

If you don’t want to break away from those elements, then how about the new A$AP Mob song with Method Man, Trillmatic.

December Movie Club?

I read a book or two about the history of South Africa after being there a few years ago that were interesting. But what’s better than reading about it? A highly-dramatised Hollywood version of it, of course. I never got around to seeing Invictus, but hope I can catch the movie: Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. Though the interest is more likely because I have been enjoying a lot of stuff with Idris Elba lately, including The Wire, Rock’N’Rolla, and Luther. Whatever the reason, anyone in?

If not, then how about any of the other awesome-looking movies coming out this month? David O. Russel’s American Hustle looks like it is worth the price just for the clothes and hair in the trailer. I was sold on Wolf of Wall Street when Leo and Scorsese were mentioned, but the trailer is amazing too.

After another night dj-ing with Mike, some other random finds, and a lack of anything else has produced this list of music to give a listen to:
- Marcus Mumford and Justin Hayward-Young cover Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright” and Neil Young’s “Like A Hurricane.” Via PMA.
- Best-of-2013 lists are starting. Pretty Much Amazing listed off their 13 best mixtapes of the year with Chicago’s Chance the Rapper at #1 and Action Bronson at #2.
- While I have been listening to more Rick Ross lately, I hadn’t this jam till Mike showed me: Ace Hood’s Bugatti.
- Also via Mike: if Miley and Robin Thicke’s VMA act was scandalous, how is no one upset about Lady Gaga and R Kelly’s SNL performance or AMA performance?
