How Quare
A while ago, Austin showed me the Writers Almanac, which is Garrison Keillor reading some some and noting that date/week in literary history. The other day I found a little less literary, little more hilarious podcast called The Dead Authors Podcast which is Paul F. Tompkins as H.G. Wells interviewing other comedians as dead authors. After a few listens, it seems some of the comedians only read the author’s wikipedia page, but still can be pretty funny. The last one I listened to was Brian Stack (who I only know from Late Night with Conan O’Brien) pretending to be Irish writer Brendan Behan. After reading more about him, I started listening to the many versions of the Auld Triangle, which was written his brother Dominick for his play, The Quare Fellow.
That long exposition is just to show this clip of Justin Timberlake, from the Coen Brother’s Inside Llewyn Davis, singing the song with Marcus Mumford and guys from the Punch Brothers. It seems like another impressive T-Bone Burnett soundtrack that you can stream on NPR, but here is the song:

Do Ya… like psychedelic rock?
The other day Xrt played this version of Do Ya that was slightly different than what I remembered hearing. After some internet-ing, it seems that, to accompany a 2012 solo/cover album, Jeff Lynne released “Very Best of ELO“, an album of ELO re-recording their hits. If you have heard all the songs too many times before, this album is good listen for some slight variations, with Do Ya as my favorite:
With all that research, I read that Do Ya was originally written by Lynne for a band called The Move. I never heard of that version or the band. And they are great, but if you give them a listen be prepared for some classic psychedelia, one characteristic being long songs (all the songs on their “Live at the Fillmore” range from 5-14 minutes long). My Girl’s Got a Cool Haircut

Buuuubble Gooooal!
Slamball seems like something fantastic to play for the 15 minutes till you break an bone. Taser ball looks like fun to watch but never play or know anyone that is playing. Bubble football/soccer is something I want to watch and play. Right now? Is there anyway this can be mine and everyone else’s christmas gift?
