More like Crappytown

Its Friday, so I am going to make this quick and dirty, the way Austin likes it:
You ever listen get excited about the alleged new pop hit of the year until your listening to your ipod and you realize the reason you find it catchy is because it is a cover/sample of a song you already have on your ipod? I am not against using samples, but I do get angry when you really don’t add anything new to the song. It wasn’t till recently found out that Crazytown’s Butterfly was a sample from a Red Hot Chili Peppers Song. I didn’t know I could think less of Shifty Shellshock.
Anyways, Mike was wondering what the best cover song ever was the other day. I am still trying to best his answer of “Twist and Shout.” Easy answers would be Elvis’ “Hound Dog” or Jimi’s “All Along the Watchtower,” but is there anything better?
If you want to hear some good covers and other covers that make you appreciate the originals so much more, check out Cover Me or Cover Lay Down.

While it’s certainly not better than Otis Redding’s, Aretha Franklin’s cover of Respect is pretty solid. And she adds her own flair to it. Otis’s is still the shit though.
Well if you’re looking for shitty but popular, i’d say Pearl Jam’s Last Kiss. Another Dylan, the Animals’s House of the Rising Sun.
And if you wanna get pissed off at rap for hardly changing a sample, try Public Enemy’s He Got Game. Yes, from the Spike Lee movie sharing the same title.
House of the Rising Sun wasn’t written by either.

And shitty? I like both versions of Last Kiss.
just like dj mike – asks the thought inspiring questions. change his name to dj mike, philosopher.
ps elvis – blue suede shoes is pretty baller.
ok – new chip leader: amii stewart – “knock on wood” not as sacriligious as you might think.
ps i love disco
I know you like disco, but that version is very very bad. You’d probably like her version of Light My Fire too, don’t you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tSqhNJtvi8
Almost as bad as Whole Lot of Love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hq0XzhOvZh4
Or Gozer the Gozerian doing CCR: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_e8lGpi0Qx4
you hate everything. i stand by my comment.
How about greatest cover- music video, cause Call on Me has to take the cake…
thats not a cover. i think ur referring to “valerie” by my boy steve winwood and that songs samples from it. thats like saying benny benassi is covering rolling stones “satisfaction” which also blows eric prydz video away: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5bYDhZBFLA
How has everyone overlooked hard to handle by the robinson brothers or their “fake” name the black crowes
how about manfred mann, blinded by the light?
after some serious brainstorming we’d also like to nominate prince- Kiss, lenny kravitz-american woman, proud mary- ike and tina, chris browns cover of ike turners right hook, thin lizzy- whiskey in the jar, and anything from The Committments
i think we should take this discussion offline.
