BROTHER NUMPSAY!
November 7, 2011 12:18 pmIn another great post from Soul-Sides.com, there is an interview with Thes One of the rap group, People Under The Stairs. He talks about how he likes to challenge himself not repeat using the same beat for any his songs. He also mentions how it is not uncommon for some producers (mentioning Kanye specifically) to re-use beats. After listening to Kanye’s “Gone” (in Austin’s great last post) a bunch, I started to listen to the sample from it, Otis Redding’s “It’s Too Late.” That was followed by trying to figure out what song the beat came from, which is another cool song called “Upon This Rock” by Joe Farrell. Kanye, Common, Redman and Methodman have actually been sued for using this beat.
So the whole point of this post is point to a couple songs I have been listening to lately:
- Kanye’s “Gone”
- Otis Redding’s “It’s Too Late”
- Joe Farrell’s “Upon This Rock”
- People Under The Stairs’ “Acid Raindrops”
- Mac Miller’s “People Under The Stairs” (same sample from above track)
- Hoodie Allen’s “James Franco” (on the topic of Mac Miller and other white rappers I am not sure about)
- The Meter’s “Handclapping Song” (sample from above song and reason I think I might like it)
