C-RAP
So my iPod finally kicked the bucket. It was a slow and painful death, but the good news is, it’s now reunited with Steve Jobs. #jokes.
Moral of the story, I’ve been using Jeremy’s old iPod since homeboy got an iPhone. We decided, as I’ve told Brian about, to buck the college bro trend of embracing Phish and Grateful Dead. Instead, we’ve been downloading 2Pac, Biggie, Kanye, Snoop Dogg etc.
So the following is a list of my/our favorites. If Neil can make his Twitter bio Kanye lyrics, then I think there’s hope for all of us. I’m going to again plug Rap Genius for lyrics and explanations. BIG reason I got into the genre. (WordPress won’t let me put all the tunes on, so sorry for YouTube links)
Jay Z & Kanye West: Watch the Throne. N’s in Paris was an instant classic, but most of the other songs are awesome as well.
N’s in Paris – They finally released the performace. Wouldn’t you watch this 8x live?
Otis– Grammy for Best Rap Performance. Yeezy and Hov were absent to recieve it. Classic.
New Day– Kanye’s favorite rap he wrote, according to him.

2Pac. I wondered why I hadn’t heard his songs on the radio or anywhere else before. Probably because half the song would be silent due to the cussing. He respects the ladies, though.
Only God Can Judge Me – My favorite beat.

Keep Ya Head Up – 2Pac cares ladies, if don’t nobody else care.
Ghetto Gospel (with Elton John)
Notorious B.I.G. is the latest one, and he only released 2 albums while alive, so there aren’t quite so many favs yet. His view on the ladies is a little different.
The What (with Method Man) – switch video quality to 720p. Got a 6 shooter and a horse named Trigger.

I Love the Dough (with Jay-Z) – Jay Z plays Monopoly with real cash.
Yelawolf. Alabama boy just made it big, got himself signed by Shady Records. “Radioactive” is his first album. Good.
Daddy’s Lambo– I admit it sounded dumb at first, but it grew on me.
Everything I Love the Most – Kinda want to learn guitar just for this song

Charlie Parr
While I am still trying to decide if the Phantom’s recent discovery of Big Sean’s Dance Ass is either the stupidest song I’ve ever heard or my new favorite, I do know that I am really into Charlie Parr right now. I first heard two of his songs from a post at Rollo and Grady, and haven’t been able to get the songs out of my head since. Check out this video:
State of the… ipod
Its been awhile since I did an Austin-length post, so here one is:
The last two years, I have reset all the plays on the ol’ ipod just to see what I’ve been listening to over the year. What I thought might have been a Robyn song or Austin’s fav Gone by Kanye was actually a list featuring the songs (1) Erase Me by Kid Cudi, (2) Forever in Blue Jeans by Neil, (3) Rockin Pneumonia by Johnny Rivers, Roger Miller’s (4)You Can’t Rollerskate in a buffalo herd and (5)Chug-a-lug, Mumford and Sons (6)The Cave and (7)Little Lion Man, (8)Plastic Jesus sung by Paul Newman, (9)Angel from Montgomery by Bonnie Raitt and (10)King of Spain by Tallest Man on Earth. (in case anyone cared).
Continuing the discussion about samples, particularly Otis Redding samples in rap songs, Soul-Sides has a nice post worth reading/listening.
Mike recommended a band, The Alabama Shakes, I had pretty much passed over till he showed me this hit, Hold On. You can listen to the rest of their ep at their bandcamp page.
With a recent Father/Daughter dance worth of top 40 jams in the ipod, here are some favorites that have gotten some repeat plays outside of the dance: Stronger by Kelly Clarkson, Honey Bee by Blake Shelton, Love You Like a Love Song by Selena Gomez and the Scene and T.H.E.(The Hardest Ever) by Will.I.Am.
Flo Rida’s Good Feeling might be on that last list too, but it definitely got a bump since Etta James is no longer with us. Something’s Got a Hold On Me is a jam, but nothing compares to Ellen’s fav In The Basement.
Not much else that I can think of, other than if you like The Kills or The Velvet Underground, this cover of Pale Blue Eyes is pretty good. This song has pretty awful lyrics, but the Martians vs. Aliens beat is stuck in my head.
