Playing the Enemy

South Africa post-1994 is the topic of tons of books. However, not all so enjoyable to read as John Carlin’s “Playing the Enemy”. The book is good but it was recently turned into a movie, Invictus,  set to be released in December 2009. Perfect timing for my return the U.S. Our house has been watching the trailor for the movie religiously and are uncontrollably excited.

Its time to play the music, its time to light the lights

I prepared for a recent road trip by downloading a bunch of free podcasts from itunes. One of them, Stuff You Should Know, is from an awesome site called HowStuffWorks.com. The two in the podcast give an overview and talk about articles from the site. Me and Ellen listened to ones explaining hangovers and muppets.

The one about muppets is especially neato. And did you know there is actually a whole wikipedia for the muppets? You could get lost on that for a while.

My fellow nerds and I will retire to the Nerdery with our calculators.

So according to Joan, I am bound to nerd it up in math college. Fact. The Undergraduate Library (or UG, if you’re cool) here has thousands of dvds, and I am currently making my way through the complete Law and Order: Baby Rape Unit. Also included is Mystery Science Theater 3000 collection. Brian and I realized that RiffTrax may actually ruin us for good movies, like Red Dawn. (RIP Swayze, I finally saw Dirty Dancing. Solid gold) So going back to these old sci-fi shitty movies should be good.

Outside of the media presented on this site, I’ve nerded out on some ok stuff. GeekStir shows the best cause I could find to get behind. Super Nintendo Wayne’s World review isn’t funny in substance, but worthwhile for the loops from the classic movie. Sidenote, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to take The Graduate seriously.

Collegehumor posted my pong students showing skills i taught them.

Here is the original picture of Neil. I did it in Microsoft Paint, so easy.

Way too much time…

99% of what’s put on the internet (especially forum threads and youtube uploads) is pure trash. Well, I’m going to be straight with you and admit what you’re about to see is part of that 99%. The only thing worse than taking the worlds most annoying song and combining it with a montage of clips from an incredibly vast and eclectic group of movies is admitting publicly that you watched the whole thing. The only thing worse than that is admitting you watched the original, which the creator was unsatisfied with. I have to say it though, the guy did a fairly decent job with the timing and editing of the video scenes, and the only reason I watched it front to back was to see what movie was going to pop up next.
