Minsky Pickup

Two days ago I was recommended an episode of the podcast Reply All in which “a man in California is haunted by the memory of a pop song from his youth. He can remember the lyrics and the melody. But the song itself has vanished, completely scrubbed from the internet.” As a person that obsesses over finding names of songs and sample origins, I found it very relatable and entertaining.

More importantly, the show also inspired me to look up something that has been bothering me for a long time. I can’t tell you how many different ways of googling random sounds like “Ba Dum Dum Da Da Dum” it took to find “Minsky Pickup“, but was inspired by the show and found it yesterday:

Bag’s on you Drysdale

Back in 2015, I posted series of videos where Artie Lange and Norm Macdonald told stories of meeting Bob Eucker. The link to one of the oddest stories went dead shortly after it, but after searching for it again, I can report that I still can’t find the original story but Artie retold it on another podcast. The only difference is that in the original version I heard, the punchline has Sinatra’s goons saying “Now the bag’s on you, Drysdale!”.

I want to be your Sledgehammer

While I don’t think Harry Styles did anything new with or added anything unique to this cover of Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer, the live drums on this are fucking fantastic.

Baby trashes bar in Las Palmas

Via someone’s facebook post, I clicked this more out of boredom or procrastination rather than interest, and was audibly giggling in my seat at work. Maybe you need a 1 year old to really appreciate it, but hopefully not.

Listening the Rain

On the topic of Sturgill covers, I thought I would keep it going because I got this song stuck in my head doing that last post.

I was thinking about posting Long White Lines ever since I read it here, but I can’t find the Buford Abner version anywhere. The Aaron Tipping version is very 90’s country, so…

Man, Sturgill can do a cover. And as good of a guitarist as he is, when he was touring with Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, the Estonian country shredding guitarist was always mentioned. This cover Listening to the Rain (originally by the Osborne Brothers) featured that guitarist pretty well.
