Röyksopp and More!

Neil Clarkson

I like to think of myself as a try-er.  I’m usually on board to try some new food I haven’t had before and  I like to think I give a lot of music a chance.  I don’t want to sound like one of those douchers that say “I listen to everything,” but I get bored of ol’ rock ‘n’ roll sometimes.  Hopefully I don’t disappoint Stinks/Neil again, here are a few of the jams I have been listening to lately.  I don’t know who Röyksopp is, but this video of real life Space Invaders got me into them(via NotCot).  PrettyMuchAmazing got me into Kid Cudi via the Crooker’s remix of Day ‘n Nite.  And if you aren’t sick of Weezy’s A Milli, check out Kid Cudi’s freestyle.  Its by the same producer of A Milli  (basically the same style/beat), and the original beat is from Rich Boy’s “Drop.”  I don’t know how I missed it earlier, but Chicago rapper Rhymefest put a mixtape as a tribute to Michael Jackson and a promo for his new cd “El Che.”  I don’t listen to many mixtapes, but I am usually a sucker for raps with old soul or R&B samples.  The new Rihanna stuff isnt’ that bad.  Hope that Chris will stop making her “hatin’ on the club.”  Finally, me, Baby/Austin, and Aunt Rosie all agree that the new Kelly Clarkson is the mad notes.  Yeah, I just said that. Slow Your Roll, PepsiCo

Has everyone seen the new Pepsi logo?  I don’t like it that much and from just a little research, it seems like a lot of other people share my opinion.  One part of the craziness is the way the company that redesigned the logo pitched it to Pepsi (which people argue might be bogus too).  Either way, it pretty funny how the Arnell Group described the logo as some sort of legacy of humankind and science.  They compare the Pepsi logo to the Mona Lisa and the Golden Ratio.  What I think is weird (and didn’t realize till Joan pointed it out to me), is that the logo does not have any trademark symbol to it.  And maybe I am getting old and bad at doing interweb research, but I can’t find any article or anything that discusses Pepsi’s reasoning for that.  (I like to think that if I am curious about something, that someone else on the interweb has probably thought about it a while ago and already wrote something about it.) The only reasons I can think of are highly doubtful:

  • It’s a marketing move to encourage people to use it and spread it around.
  • Pepsi knows how bad the logo looks and isn’t fully committing to it.
  • Forgot, like I probably would.
  • There a huge international company, but don’t think registering a trademark is worth it.

For whatever reason, Pepsi has been rebranding their entire line of drink products.  Mountain Dew is now going to be called Mtn Dew.  Tropicana got a rebrand, but after much criticism from the ol’ “blogosphere,” the old package design was brought back. Crazy, huh!?!  Yah, your right, not really.

DeVotchKa

In another effort to get virtually nothing done at the library I thought I could post about this new-to-me band, DeVotchKa. My friend and pseudo family member Billy Malloy recently passed two of their discs my way and it has been enjoyable every since. Like everything else I post DeVotchKa “fuses Romani, Greek, Slavic and Bolero music with American punk and folk roots” which anyone you know me, you know how I feel about Eastern Europe. Check out their myspace and finally for what one can only hope to be actual facts.

Angry Rants

So I like every other person reading this enjoys watching Kelly get riled up about Vanna White or Rachel about the creepy Santa Head (I’ve only heard wonderful stories about “Rachel on Roids”). So it is no surprise that an angry politically charged article would cause me such pleasure on the longest stint, in the name of the Society of Jesus, to ever take place in the Raynor library. I have been here approximately in an 2 hours and am hunkered down until 11. Anyways here it is. Sorry Michael because you are from Texas, but not really that sorry.
