  • Though my (and Joan’s) favorite version of this song is from the Matchmaker (Rolling Stone even acknowledges the movie’s help of that song), listen to Van Morrison redo “Irish Heartbeat” with Mark Knopfler on a new cd of duets including Steve Winwood, Mavis Staples and Michael Buble. (Sorry I can’t find a link to the movie clip of him singing the song).
  • Nora reminded me how good that whole Matchmaker album was.  In addition to Irish Heartbeat, there was Shane MacgGowan and the Popes’ Rock’N’Roll Paddy, The Waterboys’ Bang on the Ear, World Party’s She’s the One, but her favorite is Shane MacGowan and Sinead’s version of Haunted.
  • The Violent Femmes have released their first song in 15 years, Love Love Love, Love.
  • The Detroit Cobras have a new song out, Feel Good.
  • Mumford & Son’s new song, Believe, is available to listen.

  Monday Randies

  • So over the weekend, at a charity event in Chicago, Alec Baldwin rapped Carl Sandburg’s Chicago with Chance the Rapper beatboxing on instagram. Also, Bill Murray and Rick Ross hung out and posted some pictures to social media.
  • I love the 7 things you might not know about… features and also love the movie Mean Girls, so this video was perfect.
  • I showing Brendy this collection of animated gifs that are up for something called the Gifys.
