    More Music!

During our week stay in St. Louis, our host, Rachel, told us about this amazing, community-owned radio station there called KDHX. It is like Chicago’s WXRT wants to be. Kind of like a college radio station for adults. Because they are community-owned, they do not have commercials. Another cool feature is that they re-schedule the shows every year, so each year they get new dj’s and shows change. And apparently the process to become a dj there is pretty rigorous. Anyways, in addition to finding the Aggrolites, here is another jam that I found via the station from the Oblivians:

If this is a little too much for your friday, you can download De La Soul’s catalog via their website.

Sorry for the lack of funny videos, I have been listening to a lot of music lately and tried not to be distracted by watching videos.

    Banana

Listened to this reggae band, the Aggrolites, on the radio the other day, looked them up on Spotify, then got this different song stuck in head. Not till much after I decided I liked it did I realize it was a kid’s song from Yo Gabba Gabba. So either enjoy, or sorry for getting this stuck in your head:

    Take a load off

With more trailers coming out, here is some more promo for the new Muppets movie. Via Mike (despite the fact he hates this song – or just the Band).

    Feeling Randy?

So here are some more that I found that don’t deserve their own post:

    • Somebody made football helmets for parts of the Star Wars universe. Make sure you see all of AFC and NFC versions.
    • Ice T is pretty funny about how he got to record a Dungeons and Dragons audiobook. Via Pop Candy.
    • A floating hotel looks awesome, if you don’t get seasick.  Via NotCot.
    • I have been saying for years that Chad Smith and Will Ferrell are doppelgangers. After a Reddit AMA, now there is a “feud” over it.
    • I have been mentioning Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee a bunch, but one of more recent ones has “George Castanza” and they do some classic Seinfeld-ing.

All work and all play makes Jack…?

It has been a while since I checked in with Jack White and Third Man Records, and it is not a surprise that there are a bunch of things going on. Via the instagram, Jack White was recently selling candy on the street and hanging out at Pann’s Diner in LA, probably to setup the selling of TMR records and record players at Whole Foods in California.  He is apparently wrapping up two more albums.

Comedian Rory Scovel has recorded at Third Man.  A new band that I found while creeping on the site is the Haden Triplets.  Daughters of bass legend Charlie Haden and produced by Ry Cooder, this seems like a great album from what I have listened to so far. They have beautiful voices that remind me of the Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, Gillian Welch combo from the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack or other TMR favorite, Secret Sisters.  Here are the soundcloud samples that TMR put up on their site:
