Playing the Enemy
South Africa post-1994 is the topic of tons of books. However, not all so enjoyable to read as John Carlin’s “Playing the Enemy”. The book is good but it was recently turned into a movie, Invictus, set to be released in December 2009. Perfect timing for my return the U.S. Our house has been watching the trailor for the movie religiously and are uncontrollably excited.
Oh My Holy Crap… Surveilance Does
Imagine the director of Napoleon Dynamite was going to make another movie with Jermaine from Flight of the Conchords and Austin favorite “Eagle Vs Shark.” Well this trailer is exactly how I imagined it and how Gentleman Broncos is being marketed. Looks good you guys….
Mix and Mash
Some days I am in a rock mood and am really into news like Them Crooked Vultures showing one of their new songs and releasing their album in Nov., but other days I can get into other stuff. If you couldn’t tell with the recent excitement about Dj Hero, I currently into mixing/spinning/dj-ing. On the list of the favorite er…. remixer-guys include Girl Talk, Crookers, Z-Trip, MSTRKRFT, and Soulwax.
The Soulwax consists of 2 djs who also go by the name of 2 Many DJ’s. They did an album under this moniker called As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt. 2 that is fucking fantastic. It is kinda like those continuous mixes B96 or KissFM play during weekends, except done well and using good songs.
White People like Mos Def
Like most people, was a fan of Mos Def based the Italian Job, Chappelle Show, but not on his music. Those nerds at Sound Opinions explained that it is because he hadn’t put out any interesting music lately. That is, until this new cd, the Ecstatic. This song, Quiet Dog performed on Letterman, is from that cd and pretty badass:
