Get Some Strange

Kinda like some other internet famous indie bands, the Strange Boys come highly recommended by a bunch of blogs all at the same time. I saw them on Rollo & Grady just the other day, then today saw a post in Berkeley Place about them. So I listened to a bunch of songs by them and am now continuing the little wildfire of recommendations for them. I agree with Berkeley that they have a great low-fi, 50s garage rock sound that is perfect for fans of Black Lips, Black Keys, and Jay Reatard. The lead singer has a very nasal voice that comes off as more endearing/unique than it does annoying; kinda like the Kings of Leon. You can stream their whole album at their label Rough Trade Records(Same label as Rox), or cop some songs over at the Hype Machine.

Runaways?

stinkaways

Is anyone excited about this Runaway’s movie? How many people know much about the Runaways or care? Are some people are going to say “I’ve been listening to the Runaways for years, and I think they’re great”? It sorta happened for Ray and Walk the Line, right? If these biopics continue to be popular, what will be the next ones? Whitey thought there would be one about Roger Miller; and I hope he was right.

Rox Your Sox Off

There has been a stream of good Soul music coming from the UK lately. Winehouse, Adele, NOISEttes, Duffy a few of the more popular ones. You could probably included VV Brown in there too (if you haven’t listened to her yet, shes got it going on till the break ‘a dawn)
A new one to check out is Rox. She has been on tours with Daniel Merriweather and Mark Ronson (heres a video of her performing Valerie) and according to Pretty Much Amazing, she is produced by Al Shux, the same guy who produced Empire State of Mind.
Here is the video to her first single, My Baby Left Me:
