This is for all the ladies out there.

I know I was warned about posting on the same day but I thought this was worth it. Via Cracked.com

Housework Can Protect You From Breast Cancer

We completely realize this sounds like a fake study invented by some douchebags sitting around in a bar. That’s not the case, as far as we can tell.
A link between physical activity and protection from all kinds of diseases has been known for years in the medical community, right alongside the mind-blowing connection between breathing and not being dead. But in a UK study destined to be quoted by every Cheeto-eating jackass misogynist in the world until the end of days, the type of activity that protected women the most from breast cancer wasn’t sports or manual labor, but moderate housework.

The 2006 UK Cancer Research study on more than 200,000 women from nine European countries found that the women who spent 16 to 17 hours a week doing typical household chores like cooking or cleaning had a 20 percent reduced chance of developing breast cancer. And that’s just with menopausal patients. The risk of breast cancer in women younger than 50 who also did a moderate amount of housework was 30 percent lower than in the women who didn’t.

In fact, housework was found to be more beneficial toward the prevention of breast cancer than exercise or holding down a physical job.

The research of course doesn’t argue that housework has innate magical healing properties, nor does it suggest that you stop exercising or going to work. But combining those activities with the kind of sustained light exercise you get from daily chores is what did the trick. So keep that in mind the next time you spend 45 minutes shampooing beer out of the living room curtains.

L&O: R&B… &ElectroHouse

I like when the plot of a Law & Order show is stretched to incorporate their new endeavor, like when Jerry Orbach was the uncle of a new cop with the special victims unit in L&O: SVU or, in a recent L&O:SVU, when Liv has to go to Los Angeles and work with Skeet Skeet to promote L&O: LA.  It goes to show the amount of care/effort into the new franchises to get people on the show.  Objection. Relevancy!?

Well the reason that I bring it up was that I jamming out to the amazing song in the first couple seconds of that first episode and discovered Make the Girl Dance.  Two french djs that sound influenced or just from the same electro “scene” as Justice and Ed Banger Records. Check out the video for Baby, Baby, Baby, or this video that got me hooked on them, Kill Me:

French Electro music isn’t your scene? I couldn’t decide if it was worth its own post, but Solomon Burke just passed away. If you are unfamiliar with how amazing of a singer he was, just check out the music from other blogs’ tributes to him. He co-wrote “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love.” Another favorite is his cover of “Maggie’s Farm.”

photobomb

So I know neither of the people in the foreground. But thus is the art of the photobomb. I daresay Joan may even be proud of this.

Yesterday was my first dose of NFL RedZone, where you are cut to every game that has a team in the redzone, is threatening, just scored, on a 2 minute drive, etc. Ideally, you see every touchdown from every game, even if its split screen. Oh yeah, and without commericals. Like NPR for meatheads. Needless to say, I was a zombie yesterday. The best is when there’s a lull of like 3-4 minutes, they put on a montage of every touchdown thus far that day; I think thats the video on the home page of the link above.

This, however, did not help my fantasy team, the Bitch Hunters, which is now 0-5-0 with Joseph Addai out. But, my buddy Brock did show me KissingSuzyKolber.com. Its a blog dedicated to the NFL. And however dorky that sounds, or he sounds in his posts, just remember what website you are reading this on. He really hates Chicago quarterbacks, be it his joy in Cutler\’s sacks, or these hilarious commentaries from the Sex Cannon, Rex Grossman.

The dude also loves memes, a word i just found the definition for on Google Dictionary. Cigar Guy is my absolute favorite. There’s this cool picture where Tiger hits the cameraman at the Ryder Cup. Neat, but the guy with headdress and cigar is hard to un-notice after someone telling you. So, the internet gave him the Neil treatment. and may I go so far as to request Neil in the same get-up?

Hulu said I’d like this new cast member on SNL’s Denzel impersonation. They were right. Jay Pharoah is apparently pretty damn good.  But I gotta start gettin to class. We learn how champagne is made today in Hort!

Facebook Funnies and a few cool things.

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything on here, but since I take advantage of all the things you guys seem to find, I figured I could contribute, albeit once in a great while.

Don’t remember how I found this, but this is what walls would look like if Facebook existed throughout history.

Secondly, and again without reference, I stumbled across the website for this cool contest where every year people contribute images of what the US Dollar bills would look like if they designed them. The Dollar Redesign Project has inspired some pretty cool ideas.

So, I was messing around on Cracked.com and found this article called “17 images you won’t believe aren’t photoshopped.” There are four parts to it, and some of the images really are neat to look at. That being said, two of my favorites that I thought you all might like are microphotography (taking pictures of things really really up close, like through a microscope), and rock balancing, which is pretty much what it sounds like. Google images results for both of these (microphotography and rock balancing) will yield some pretty cool pics.

Last but not least, I’m kind of into this song I’ve been listening to for about a month now. It’s called “For Me, For Us, For You” by a band called Paper City. Can’t dig up too much on them, but they’re available on iTunes and you can go to their Myspace page here.
