Categories for Songs Not On Spotify

Chairman of the Board

Give Me Just a Little More Time must be going through some ownership disputes, because it keeps being taken off and put on Spotify over the past couple years. As Mike pointed out, it is currently not. So enjoy it on youtube for now:

Walk this way

Big thank you Megalodon for this gem. I can’t remember seeing Dragnet, but I know I’ve never seen Dan Akroyd or Tom Hanks rap. This video is so very 1987. Someone with money clearly just said, legally rip-off Run DMC’s Walk this Way and make a promotional music video this movie. As Mike said to me: it’s not on Spotify, but it should be.

Novelty

Megalodon Michael snapped this to me the other day and it light up my life. Chuck Klosterman has a quote about mixtapes being diaries or snapshots of someone’s life (which I’m too lazy to search out and link to). I could tell you I had recently discovered Heartworn Highways on Netflix DVD, hence the Willie Nelson & Steve Earle songs. It must have been around Mother’s Day, because that would be the reason I dug up We Got A New Way To Walk.

But I digress… The video I want to embed is one you can’t find on Spotify. It is a cover I’m Glad (by a band I should probably know more about than I do, Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band). It was released via the Black Key’s website for a limited time, apparently. Here is that:

Couldn’t ‘ave come at a better time.

Apparently it’s St. Patricks day?! I’m kinda surprised I haven’t posted these songs before. (Previous St. Paddy posts/songs from 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008) They are definitely not on Spotify. My favorite two songs off the album. Can You Hear The Rangers Sing / Sean South has definitely the go-to Irish song thanks to Brendan. Here are some mp3s:

Dumb & Dumber

I got very cynical dismissive last year around this time when someone passed around this list of best soundtracks from Pitchfork. The main reason was because Dumb & Dumber was nowhere to be found on it. It has this fantastic version of Ballad of Peterpumpkinhead by Crash Test Dummies, The Bear Song by Green Jelly, a cover of Get Ready by the Proclaimers, (more fun fact than good song) Take by the Lupins (of Q101 Lance & Stoley’s fame). Although YouTube says this is Crash (’95 Remix) by the Primitives, I swear there was a fantastic acoustic outro.

Maybe the judges didn’t rate it because all of the songs are not on Spotify. Jonathon Brandmeier favorite (I can’t find link to corroborate with my memory of this, but…) New Age Girl by Dead Eye Dick is not on Spotify at all.
